Victory Lane: Home of NSA/Tournament Sports

Fifty-three NSA teams, with every player sporting a LAF wristband, contributed to a good cause in the first ever LAF Benefit held on January 8 & 9 at Victory Lane. The LAF Benefit was such a success that there was an eight-team waiting list to enter the tournament. Despite rainy predictions by the local weather stations, not a drop fell and all games were played as scheduled.

John McDonald's TEAM KORRUPT started the New Year off right with a 4 - 0 record taking the Championship in the D Division, while Murphy's Law coached by Scott Manning took Second Place. Tony Felix's AZ Sports team had a strong showing finishing in Third Place while Attitudes placed Fourth after narrowly losing to Murphy's Law by a score of 13-12 earlier in the day.

NAPOLES BALL BUSTERS from Wickenburg finished strong with an 8 - 1 record over Mike Pina's, ShowTime team, which came in Second. Third Place went to A.G.E. from Gilbert and Hot Boyz coached by Dan and Mona Williams finished in Fourth Place.

In the E Division, Patrick Valenzula's LOS CHINGONS notched their first win ever in defeating Softball Junkies who took second place. On Hit was third and Badd-AZ-Boyz, from Prescott Valley came in fourth.

There were three Divisions in the Coed portion of the tournament, which was played on Sunday only. In the Upper Division Tammy Niewold's PERFORMANCE GOLF finished in First Place over Deprived. Chad Otteson's JWP was First over Leonard Tartalia's, City Boyz & Girlz team. In the Recreation Division, PLUTONIUM coached by Laura Garcia and Johnny Delgado, beat out Deejay Nations Scrappers team to win First Place

Metro Phoenix Hispanic Director, Leon Rodriguez stated that, "The LAF tournament was a good way to start out 2005 with a terrific draw from teams through out Arizona competing in many closely contested games. I think all the teams enjoyed the LAF free wristbands and contributing to a worthy cause."

In 2005, NSA/Arizona will offer many other tournaments to benefit Arizona charities. These benefits include the Kiwanis Classic and Verde River Days in Cottonwood on April 2 & 3 and September 24 & 25 respectively. The next benefit is the 20th Annual Presidential Classic on February 5 & 6, which benefits The Phoenix Park Foundation. New this year NSA/Tournament Sports will add another benefit tournament donating a portion of the proceeds to a local animal shelter or the Humane Society.

Congratulations to all the winning teams and thanks to all the teams for playing NSA and donating to the LAF Foundation and we hope to see you later this year.
