Sixteen Women's teams met late in the evening on August 21st to compete in the NSA State Championships. Three Champions were crowned in the tournament that stretched until the wee hours on Sunday morning at Victory Lane, the home field of NSA/Tournament Sports. The "E" Division was won by AZ Pros, coached by Lorraine Santana from Phoenix. Sis Bruce's Nacho Mamas Phoenix team was victorious in the"D" Division. BFI, also from Phoenix, and coached by Matthew Santistevan took the "B/C" Division. AZ Pros won the "E" Division with a 6-1 record after losing their first game. AZ Pros double dipped a tough Body Shots team 11-7 in the Championship game and 19-5 in the "If" game. After advancing to the championship game Body Shots ended the day (night) in second place. The MVP award went to April Jessee of AZ Pro. All tourney players were: Trish Fimbres, Lisa Wagner and Toni Lenhauser of AZ Pro; Janette Hernandez, Brenda Bryant and Juliette Martinez of Body Shots; Beth Musil and Candice Coggin of Thrown Together. In the "D" Division Nacho Mamas went undefeated squeaking out a 9-8 victory over Lady Leaguers, of Tucson, in the championship game. Lady Leaguers, coached by Kim Botkin and Troy Thomas, finished in second place winning two extremely close games (11-10 over Tucson Dusters and 11-8 over Biscuits) to make it into the championships. The MVP was awarded to Luann Rogers from Nacho Mamas. All tourney selections were: C.T. Webster and Jodi Pauga of Nacho Mamas; Kelsey Kubik, Amanda Cannon and Melissa Marion of Lady Leaguers. BFI was victorious in the "B/C" Division with a 3-0 record. They topped Phoenix Fire 19-14 in the championship game to finish an undefeated night. Phoenix Fire, coached by Scott Weeks, finished the tournament with a 2-1 record. The MVP was Kendra Curran from BFI. All-Tourney awards were given to Stephanie Yocum, Cara Shinjo and Juanita Ketterling of BFI; and Deejay Nations, Toby Girard and Tammy Wright of Phoenix Fire. NSA/Tournament Sports would like to thank all the participating teams that helped make this a great tournament. Good luck to the teams traveling on to the Western Worlds in Las Vegas. |
